Die kerkraad van die Stutterheim Verenigde Gemeente wag in afhanklikheid aansoeke in vir bogenoemde pos.

Profile of congregation:

We are a united congregation formed by the merging of the Dutch Reformed and the Presbyterian Churches in Stutterheim. Our combined membership is 253. Our congregation is bilingual (Afrikaans and English), diverse, and committed to serving our members, the town and the district farming communities of Stutterheim, Bolo, Kei Road and Komga. We maintain initiatives that generate income and serve our wider community, eg Komga Christian charity shop, Care/Compassion programmes and properties to rent. Church ministers have an active interchurch fraternal, including the participation of Forest Way Outdoor Outreach. Our current minister is retiring, and we believe our town is a place where our new minister would have the opportunity to make a real difference.

Location:

Stutterheim is a friendly large rural town in the Eastern Cape. It lies at the foot of the Amatola Mountains, is about 80 km from East London, and is a mix of town and farming communities. Outdoor activities include walking or riding in our indigenous forests, fishing in local dams, or visiting the country club that offers a variety of sports and social events. We have an active, strong community with several community-focused events and clubs. The town has an excellent Afrikaans/English medium state school (Grade R to 12), both private and state medical services, shops and restaurants, and industries, factories and farms that provide work.

Soos enige ander munisipaliteit in Suid-Afrika het Stutterheim ook sy uitdagings rakende infrastruktuur. Gelukkig het die pastorie rugsteunstelsels vir beide water (tenk met pomp) en krag (solar, omskakelaar en batterye). Na die aanstelling van ’n nuwe munisipale bestuurder word daar ook heelwat werk aan die dorp se paaie gedoen vanjaar.

Leraarsprofiel:

Die kerkraad het nie voorvereistes ten opsigte van die kandidaat se diensjare en ondervinding nie. Die aangewese persoon moet alle ampspligte volgens die betrokke kerkordes kan nakom.

Die gemeente is op soek na iemand wat:

• Sal tuis voel in ’n plattelandse omgewing waar persoonlike kontak hoog geag word.
• Leierskap kan bied wat ons help om beide ons eenheid te versterk en om uit te reik na nuwe lidmate (veral jong werkendes en families).
• Met deernis en sensitiwiteit ’n diverse gemeenskap kan bedien: jonk en oud, Afrikaans, Engels, afgetredenes, boere, besigheidsmense, staatsamptenare, nuwe intrekkers.
• Continue building on the unity, goodwill and strong lay leadership already present.
• Participate actively in community care, outreach and church partnerships.

Minimum requirements:

• Ordained in the Dutch Reformed Church OR accredited in the Uniting Presbyterian Church of SA.
• Bilingual: Afrikaans and English.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Comfortable working in a church-in-transition, with openness to cultural and linguistic diversity.
